Project Controls Manager

About the job

A Project Controls Manager is needed for a portfolio of projects at a pharmaceutical client site in the Raleigh area. This is a multi-year assignment with an opportunity for extension. The position will report to the Principal Consultant and interact with multiple departments across a wide range of projects (including process improvements, manufacturing planning, new equipment implementation, facility construction, product introductions and logistics optimization). Key deliverables will include project schedules, scenario analysis, cost reports and monthly project summary reports.


  • Leads detailed schedule development based on project understanding from stakeholders  and team members
  • Leads development of project estimates and preparation of detailed cost reports
  • Update project progress and perform analysis of bottlenecks, trends, critical path
  • Track, analyze and present project status data to team members
  • Identify and communicate project risks and develop mitigation plans
  • Provide “What-if” scenario support for cost and schedules
  • Develop custom projects reports as needed to facilitate project discussions
  • Prepare project status presentations highlighting key accomplishments, risks, and changes
  • Provide additional support as required/needed by the project manager(s)
  • Manage a team of project controls personnel if applicable


  • Four-year relevant engineering degree
  • 7-10+ years project experience in project controls or project support in the pharmaceutical industry
  •  Proficient with scheduling software Primavera, MS Project, etc. and have experience conducting Monte Carlo simulations
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and PowerPoint


  • Ability to analyze complex data and then deliver clear, articulate and concise messages in a compelling manner
  • Exhibits professionalism by establishing effective relationships with project leads, area managers, vendors, and support staff and gains their trust and respect
  • Must conduct business activities in an honest, forthcoming manner and follow through on commitments
  • Manages individual time by building due dates into assignments and then prioritizes work to accomplish more in less time
  • Continually seeks new functional knowledge and looks to build technical expertise
  • Excels in a team setting by clearly communicating project information and by listening effectively and inviting responses
